Registration Information
When to Enroll
Newly admitted degree-seeking graduate students will register approximately one to two weeks prior to the start of their first semester. Specific dates for new graduate students can be found in the Enrollment Appointments section of the University Registration Guide.
Following your initial semester, registration for degree-seeking students will generally occur on the following tentative timeline.
Fall semester
- CourseLookup available by March 1
- Early registration window for degree-seeking students – Middle of March through end of April
- Final regular registration window for degree-seeking students – Early July through end of July
Spring semester
- CourseLookup available by October 1
- Regular registration window for degree-seeking students – Middle of October through end of November
Summer semester
- CourseLookup available by March 1
- Regular registration window for degree-seeking students – Middle of March through end of April
NOTE: Provisionally accepted students will register during the new graduate student enrollment window for their second semester as the provisions of the admission must be verified following the posting of grades for the initial semester.
Caution: All students must be registered in at least one course PRIOR to the first day of start of the semester or the university will assess a $100 late registration fee.
Class Search
- Go to my.fsu.edu and enter your login credentials
- Select the ‘SC’ icon
- Select ‘My Classes’
- Select ‘Class Search’ on the left-hand side
Once in the course search you must select at least 2 search criteria. For example, select your desired Term, the Subject LIS, and Course Number greater than or equal to 5000.
Please note that only courses numbered 5000 and above qualify as graduate level credit. If a course is not listed on the iSchool course descriptions page, special permission must be acquired in order to count this credit towards your degree program. If you are in the MSIT program, there is a list of classes on the MSIT degree requirements page that are not approved to count towards your program of study.
How to Add Classes to Shopping Cart and Enroll in Classes
- Once you have located your class in ‘Class Search,’ you can select it to learn more detailed information.
- Press the Select button to add the class to your shopping cart.
- To officially enroll in the class, review the class details one last time and select Enroll for each class.
- If the term you are enrolling in is already in progress, the course will typically appear in Canvas (canvas.fsu.edu) within 24 hours of enrolling.
Shopping Cart
The shopping cart is a way to build your desired class schedule before your enrollment window opens.
- Add up to 18 credits to your shopping cart.
- When your enrollment window opens, log in, view your shopping cart and follow the steps to enroll
- Putting classes in your shopping cart does not save you a seat in the class.
You must enroll in each course to reserve a seat. Additionally, saving a class to the shopping cart does not ensure that you meet the requirements for enrolling in that class.
