The best and the brightest of today’s students in all fields will find that completing an Information Technology minor will enhance their degree and will become more effective in their primary field of study. Adding a minor in information technology also helps you build the skills you need to be productive in a world of ubiquitous information and technology.
Applying for Admission
Undergraduate admission to Florida State University is processed through the Office of Admissions. Students do not need to submit a separate application to the School of Information.

The School of Information offers a minor in Information Technology on a space-available basis. The minor consists of twelve (12) semester hours in Information Technology courses, as listed below:
- LIS 2360 Web Application Development
- LIS 2780 Database Concepts
- LIS 3353 Information Technologies
- COP 2258 Problem-Solving with Object-Oriented Programming or LIS 4480 IT Leadership
At least six hours of the minor must be taken with the School of Information at the Florida State University. Courses taken at another institution must be evaluated by the School of Information to determine equivalency. Courses taken to meet the minor are not applicable to any other requirement.
All courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C–.” More information can be obtained by contacting the undergraduate advisors. You can search the current schedule of classes on the FSU Class Search or view the School’s planned long-term schedule of classes.
Students do not have to complete any paperwork to begin working on an Information Technology minor, and the School does not provide a certificate of completion. It is the responsibility of your major to verify that you have completed the minor.
