This combined pathway allows motivated and academically talented FSU undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue an accelerated program culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) and a Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT). Students accepted to this bachelor’s/master’s combined pathway may count up to 12 units of graduate coursework toward both the BSIT and the MSIT degrees.
The BSIT/MSIT combined pathway allows eligible students to:
- Count up to 12 graduate-level credit hours toward both the BSIT and MSIT degrees.
- Complete both the BSIT and MSIT degrees in a shorter time span.
- Apply undergraduate tuition assistance (e.g., Bright Futures, Florida Pre-Paid) to graduate courses.
- Explore graduate coursework as an undergraduate student, easing the transition to the graduate school.
Eligibility Requirements
Minimum Degree/Coursework

An undergraduate student interested in enrolling in the BSIT/MSIT combined pathway must:
- Be formally admitted and currently enrolled as an FSU undergraduate pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree (IT Majors Only) in the School of Information.
- Have successfully completed a minimum of 9 letter-graded hours of BSIT major coursework. (NOTE: Transfer students must have completed a minimum of 24 hours of credit at FSU and have completed all Term 5 Mapping Milestones.)
- Have a proven record of high academic achievement that will allow the student to meet the challenges of graduate coursework.

A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on all upper-division undergraduate coursework towards a bachelor’s degree. |
Graduate Admissions Entrance Exam

Official test results from a nationally standardized Graduate Admissions Entrance Exam, such as the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), and the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). The GRE is preferred. |

English Language Proficiency (International Applicants ONLY)

Official English Language Proficiency results are required of all international applicants whose native language is not English. The minimum scores required for admission to the School of Information are:
- Paper based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 585 total / 61 writing
- Internet based TOEFL (IBT): 94 total / 24 writing
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5

Retention Requirements
- Students must maintain an overall FSU cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
- A grade of B or better must be achieved in graduate level courses in order to count toward the BSIT/MSIT combined pathway.
- Students will receive their BSIT degree when all undergraduate requirements are completed. When the graduate degree requirements are completed the MSIT degree will be awarded.
BSIT/MSIT Combined Pathway Transition and Application Timeline
Step 1: Make an appointment to meet with the BSIT undergraduate advisor to discuss eligibility once 60+ hours of coursework toward the BSIT degree has been completed.
Step 2: Complete the Supplemental Application to begin the application process to the BSIT/MSIT combined pathway by April 1 of your junior year.
Step 3: Take the GRE and submit the University Graduate Admissions Application by July 1 of your senior year (please note that the GRE is automatically waived through the Fall 2026 semester).
Junior Year (60+ hours completed)
Fall Semester
- Enroll in and successfully complete 15 hours toward completion of the BSIT degree.
- Maintain a cumulative FSU GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Spring Semester
- Enroll in and successfully complete 15 hours toward completion of the BSIT degree.
- Maintain a cumulative FSU GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Apply to the BSIT/MSIT bridge program by July 1 by submitting the online Supplemental Application (see details below).
Senior Year (90+ hours completed)
Fall Semester
- Enroll in and successfully complete:
– 9 hours of coursework toward completion of the BSIT degree
– 6 hours of MSIT coursework: LIS 5275 Usability Analysis (3) and LIS 5405 Leadership in Technology (3)
- Maintain a cumulative FSU GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Spring Semester
- Enroll in and successfully complete:
– 9 hours of coursework toward completion of the BSIT degree
– 6 hours of MSIT coursework: LIS 5487 Information Systems Management (3) and LIS 5786 Introduction to Information Architecture (3)
- Take the GRE and submit test scores to be received by July 1.
- Submit the University Graduate Admission Application online requesting Fall matriculation for the MSIT program (INFOTECHMS) by July 1. You will be required to upload a current resume.
- Complete the requirements for the BSIT degree.
University Graduate Admission Application Information – Spring of Senior Year
Submit the online University Graduate Admissions Application. Students will be required to apply to the University and pay an application fee (online). With your University Graduate Application, you will be required to include the following:
- Upload a copy of your current resume
- Upload a Statement of Purpose
- Please discuss (in approximately 1 page, single-spaced) your background and experience in information technology, motivation for graduate study in this field, your professional plans after completing this degree program, and how this degree program will help you achieve your goals. If there additional details about your professional, academic, or personal history you wish to be considering as part of the application process, please include them in this document.
The following courses have been approved to count toward completion of the BSIT/MSIT combined pathway program:

Once students have completed the requirements for the BSIT program using the 12 hours of graduate credit listed above, the MSIT degree program of study should be followed.
