Requirements for the Major in IT

The Major in Information Technology is a forty-two (42) semester hour program. Course descriptions for the IT major are available here:


Required Courses

IT majors must complete six foundation courses (18 credit hours) and two capstone courses (6 credit hours).

Foundation Courses (18 credit hours required)

  • LIS 3021 Technical Communication for the Information Professions OR IFS 3108 Technical Communication in the Information Age
  • LIS 3201 Research and Data Analysis in Information Technology
  • LIS 3267 Information Science
  • LIS 3353 Information Technologies
  • LIS 3706 Information Systems and Services
  • LIS 3784 Intermediate Database Analysis

Capstone Courses (6 credit hours required)

  • LIS 4708 Perspectives on Information Technology
  • LIS 4910 Information Technology Project

Electives

IT majors must also take a minimum of eighteen (18) semester hours of electives. To specialize, students are recommended to choose six related courses in the following areas of concentration:

Design and Development (suggested minimum of 4 courses if specializing)
