Admissions

Prerequisite Coursework: (24 hours)

Information Technology majors must complete the following with a grade of C minus or higher. Some prerequisite coursework may also be used to satisfy General Education requirements.

COP XXXX (3) any programming course (FSU students take LIS 2360 or equivalent)
COP XXXX (3) any object-oriented programming course (FSU students take COP 2258 or equivalent)

Technology Requirement

All students in the Information Technology major are required to provide their own laptop computer and appropriate software. Specific information may be found online: http://ischool.cci.fsu.edu/academics/online/requirements.

Computer Skills Competency

All undergraduates at Florida State University must demonstrate basic computer skills competency prior to graduation. As necessary computer competency skills vary from discipline to discipline, each major determines the courses needed to satisfy this requirement. Undergraduate majors in information technology satisfy this requirement by earning a grade of “C–” or higher in CGS 2060 or CGS 2100. Undergraduate majors in information communication and technology satisfy this requirement by earning a grade of “C–” or higher in CGS 2060, CGS 2100, or COM 4470.

Minimum Grade Requirement

All students of The Florida State University must fulfill the degree requirements set forth in the “Undergraduate Degree Requirements” chapter of the General Bulletin. To complete the IT degree, students must get a minimum grade of “C-” for all required courses and prerequisites. Specific courses and their descriptions are listed in the University Bulletin.

Requirements for Progression to the Upper-Division Major

Students must complete the prerequisite coursework to be considered for the major. Students must also complete at least 52 hours of credit with a minimum grade point average of 2.00, at least half the required General Education requirements, including freshman English composition and both mathematics courses, or an A.A. Degree.

Applying for Admission

Undergraduate admission to Florida State University is processed through the Office of Admissions.  Students do not need to submit a separate application to the School of Information.

Academic Mapping

Mapping is FSU’s academic advising and monitoring system to ensure that students are on course to earn their degree in a timely fashion.  Transfer students with a Florida AA degree must have completed all mapping milestones for their major, up to and including Term 4, at the time they are admitted.  Students working on their AA are advised to review the Common Course Prerequisites and mapping milestones for their potential major in the Academic Guide.
