Information Use Management & Policy Institute
Institute Homepage
The Information Institute directed by Dr. Marcia Mardis conducts research that focuses on the information user, the interaction of the user with information products, services, policies, technologies, and organizations. We also conduct information policy research on current issues at every level of government related to public access, privacy, records management, and use of information in electronic forms. We place particular emphasis on the planning and evaluation of networked and other information services through analyzing and evaluating the impact of systems from a policy and user perspective. Research areas include: E-Government, Usability, Information Policy, Libraries & Library Services, Performance Measures and E-Metrics.
Institute for Digital Information and Scientific Communication (iDigInfo)
Institute Homepage
The institute provides a home for innovative, multidisciplinary projects centered on large-scale information creation, organization, use, and communication to address society’s grand challenges. It catalyzes new interactions between the college’s information and communication experts and those from other domains across campus. The institute welcomes new collaborations, and those interested should contact the Director (Dr. Austin Mast) to get the ball rolling.
eHealth Lab
Lab Homepage
The research in the eHealth Lab directed by Dr. Zhe He is meticulously designed to foster health education, empower patient self-management, enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery, and elevate the standards of clinical research by leveraging the power of big health data. Employing user-centered and participatory approaches, we are dedicated to developing AI-powered health delivery platforms and tools that are as innovative as they are inclusive. Our machine learning and natural language processing expertise enables us to extract actionable insights from complex healthcare systems, thereby informing medical decision-making and exploring the nuances of clinical trial participation. Research areas include: Our specialized research areas span across Biomedical and Health Informatics, Clinical Research Informatics, Consumer Health Informatics, as well as Knowledge Representation and Biomedical Ontologies. We are also deeply engaged in advancing the fields of Biomedical Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, and Health Data Analytics with a multidisciplinary approach.
iSensor Lab
Lab Homepage
The iSensor Lab directed by Dr. Shuyuan Ho Metcalfe is dedicated to sociotechnical research studying trust, trustworthiness and other human information behaviors related to cybersecurity, privacy and ethics. Research areas include: trusted human-computer interaction, computer-mediated deception, deepfake, and cyber insider threat viewed through the sociotechnical lens of trustworthiness attribution and collective intelligence. Information behavioral forensics during cyberbullying, as well as uncertain and crisis situations for the societal well-being. Innovation is expressed through computational modeling of next generation predictive behavioral reasoning systems and artificial intelligence—analyzing complex trust relationships, human disposition and intent detection.
Machine Learning Lab (MLab)
Lab Homepage
The MLab directed by Dr. Jonathan Adams is developing software to generate synthetic music and art, and is developing OSRAI (Ocean Search and Rescue AI), an object identification system that receives data from an autonomous aircraft. MLab research is involved in development of tools and techniques to make synthetic images to facilitate training YOLO, a computer vision Agent. Research areas include: Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Object-detection in an Air-Sea Search and Rescue context.
