2015 Great Give: Lead and Succeed

FSU’s Great Give is just around the corner, taking place March 19-20. This year, the 36-hour online campaign will raise funds for student groups. The event starts at 9 AM EST on March 19th and will run until 9 PM on March 20th. Gifts can be made through the Great Give’s website.

This year, the College of Communication & Information’s Great Give campaign “Lead and Succeed” will directly benefit our student organizations. Did you know that within our College, there are 16 active student clubs and groups that provide professional development, leadership and community outreach opportunities for its members? Students who participate in these organizations also hone their communication, social and organization skills, providing them with real world experience that help them prepare for future careers. Most of these organizations host programs, workshops and events usually with very limited funding and in most cases, without any funding at all!

Your support will allow student organizations in CCI to continue their efforts in helping thousands of students in multiple ways that will contribute to their academic success and prepare them for future careers.  Make a gift to support one or more of CCI’s 16 student organizations below and please be sure to help us get the word out.   • Ad Club enables members to network with professionals, build their resume and portfolio and travel to visit metropolitans like New York City and expose them to agency life.
  • Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) exists to bring professional speakers, mentors, internship opportunities to students. With bonds in the community like TalTech, Refresh Tallahassee and Code Camp, students are given real world advice while still in college.
  • American Library Association (ALA) Student Chapter promotes involvement in ALA, professional activities and the development of skills and relationships for students studying Library Science in the School of Information.
  • CCI Student Leadership Council serves as a liaison group between the student body, Dean and alumni of the College and Florida State.
  • Community Outreach Group (COG) serves to match students with outreach opportunities that match their skills and interests.
  • Communication Graduate Association encourages advancement for communication graduate students through support in academia and career decisions.
  • Cybersecurity Club enables students to advance their technical skills and knowledge in cybersecurity through various national and international events.
  • Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) this group helps public relations students develop professionally, network with industry professionals and acquire the skills necessary to become PR professionals.
  • FSU Forensics is a debate team that has been around since the 1800s and recently won their 9th consecutive State Championship.
  • Lambda Pi Eta Honors Society this honors society supports the professional development, interests and academic pursuits of students in CCI.
  • National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSHLA) helps Communication Science & Disorders students to network and address current issues relevant to the fields of speech language pathology and audiology.
  • STARS Alliance is an elite group of students who are leaders in the field of IT and ICT. Their main focus is to enabled underrepresented groups, like women and minorities, to join computing fields.
  • Transfers Helping Transfers (THT) helps transfer students acclimate to life at Florida State by pairing them with another transfer student who has been at Florida State for awhile.
  • Women in Communication (WIC) serves to champion women in all communication disciplines by growing professional networks.
  • Women in IT Sharing Experiences (WISE) focuses on bringing more women into fields related to computing.
  • WVFS Radio, also known as the beloved V89, allows students to volunteer and learn about radio operations.

Last year, FSU’s  Great Give surpassed goals and raised $133,024.13 for academic programs and scholarships.
