iSchool Scholarship Opportunities

The School of Information provides a number of scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students who are matriculated in one of the School’s academic programs and who are in good academic standing. These awards are made possible through the generosity of alumni and friends. Award criteria vary accordingly and are indicated below.

To apply for a scholarship, complete the iSchool Scholarship Application. School of Information Scholarships are awarded once a year prior to the fall semester.  Applications are due March 15 of each year.  If you have any questions, please contact the appropriate the School of Information.

Cecil P. Beach Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to graduate students majoring in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) and who reside in Broward or Miami-Dade County. Preference is given to current employees of the Broward County library system or South Florida residents who have demonstrated a desire to further their education in order to serve the people of Broward County. This scholarship honors Cecil P. Beach for his years of service to the people of Broward County.

Ron and Genny Blazek Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students.

Liz Cropper Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students majoring in Library and Information Studies (MLIS); preference is given to students with high academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA).

Cynthia Duncan Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to full-time graduate students who best exemplify Dr. Duncan’s commitment to library automation/technology and excellence in library services.

Harold Goldstein Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students.

John M. Goudeau Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate and graduate students specializing in academic librarianship.

Mary Alice Hunt Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students specializing in school media or youth services.  This scholarship honors Dr. Hunt, Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Information for 44 years.

Dr. Martha Jane Zachert Endowed Scholarship

Support for graduate students with priority given to students with a strong interest in the management and administration of libraries, reference librarianship and a commitment to the importance of diversity in the field of library and information studies.

Madge Hutcherson Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students working toward school media certification.  This scholarship honors FSU Alum and Library Studies professor Madge Hutcherson.

Maura Susan Kaufman Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate students; criteria for selection in order of priority are: (1) demonstrated financial need, (2) scholarship, (3) involvement in extra-curricular activities.

Law Librarians Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students enrolled in the joint MS/JD program at FSU or who are Law School Graduates currently enrolled in the Masters of Science in Library & Information Studies (MLIS) program at FSU and intend on becoming a law librarian.

Lewis-Marxen Scholarship

An annual fellowship for returning graduate students working on a doctoral degree.

Esther Maglathin Doctoral Research Scholarship

Awarded to mid-year doctoral students collaborating with a professor or for doctoral candidates in their final year working on dissertation research.

John David Marshall Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students specializing in academic librarianship.  Recipient is selected on the basis of academic achievement. This scholarship honors John David Marshall, a 1951 School of Information graduate, noted author in the field of books on librarianship, as well as 1989 recipient of the School of Information Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Jacqueline D. Montgomery Scholarship in Information Studies

Awarded to graduate students with interests in needs, access, and use of information resources and services by underserved populations.

Professor’s Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students majoring in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) in honor of the following professors:

Dr. Jane Robbins
Dr. Alphonse Trezza
Dr. Robert G. Clapp

Ruth H. Rockwood Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate and graduate students on the basis of scholarship and need.

Louis Shores Scholarship

Awarded to undergraduate and graduate students on the basis of scholarship, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and financial need. This scholarship honors Dr. Louis Shores, first Dean of the Library School at FSU, responsible for the American Library Association (ALA) accreditation of the School and noted librarian and author.

H.W. Wilson Foundation Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students majoring in Library and Information Studies (MLIS).
